In its early days, punk represented underground anti-establishment music at its most extreme. Now, over 30 years later, punk and punk-influenced bands like Sum 41, Green Day, Blink 182 and the Offspring top the charts, sell out stadiums, and appear on network television. With the increasing proliferation of styles and popularity of this genre, RosebudMag.com takes a look at ten of the punk bands that paved the way for today’s superstars.

Mixed Martial Arts is one of the world’s fastest growing sports. Fans and practitioners are on the rise, and the UFC is big business. Despite the UFC’s perfect track record of safety and the sport’s overall record of safety, which is comparable to other major sports like football and hockey, many detractors continue to complain that MMA doesn’t belong in our culture. All too often these arguments are fueled by abject ignorance or the nuance, skill, and safety of MMA.

It’s been a wild year in NCAA basketball. The Duke Blue Devils started out at the top of both the AP and the USA Today/ESPN Coaches poll, but a couple of setbacks left them down the list. Then it was the Ohio State Buckeyes’ turn. But the season’s last undefeated team was taken down by Wisconsin last week, leaving the Kansas Jayhawks to step up into the #1 spot. But this week, Kansas State stunned Kansas with an upset loss, which leaves the question of a #1 team up in the air. OSU could head back to the top, but Texas has been making a case for itself lately, too.

Last weekend Anderson Silva went a long way to proving beyond a doubt that he is the best pound-for-pound fighter in MMA by knocking out Vitor Belfort with a unique left front kick, the likes of which has never been seen in the UFC. I’ve advocated Georges St. Pierre as the best pound-for-pound guy in this space before, but even I’m about ready to sit on the fence after UFC 126 and that spectacular finish. However, things are shaping up to put an end to the ongoing dispute once and for all.

The Green Bay Packers, winners of the first Super Bowl, got out to an early lead in Super Bowl XLV, and, although the Pittsburgh Steelers closed the gap, the Packers never relinquished their lead and won the game 31-25. Aaron Rodgers stepped up in a big way, earning MVP honors, while Green Bay’s defensive leader, Clay Matthews, showed his stuff on the big stage as well. For Ben Roethlisberger, Rashard Mendenhall, and Troy Polamalu, it was a day of huge disappointment, as the Steelers completely blew a final drive that could have won them the game.

When Super Bowl XLV kicks off this Sunday, February 6 from Cowboys Stadium in Dallas, the NFC champion Green Bay Packers meet the AFC champion Pittsburgh Steelers to see who can add to their franchise’s collection of NFL championships. A lot of people tune in for the ads, some watching the only football game they’ll see all year. But whether you’re a diehard or a newbie, everyone likes to make predictions. So let’s break the big game down a little.

The Philadelphia Flyers had their hearts broken last season when they lost a hard fought finals to the Chicago Blackhawks. The Flyers made it past the Boston Bruins by the skin of their teeth, only to watch someone else raise the Stanley Cup. But that experience seems only to have made the Flyers stronger. This year, Daniel Briere, Mike Richards, Chris Pronger et al are poised to return to the NHL playoffs and finish what they started last year.

San Diego State may be one of only two undefeated teams left this year, but even being 20-0 isn’t enough to get them ranked higher than Pittsburgh or Duke, who both have losses but are #2 and #3 to SDSU's #4 this week. Playing in the Mountain West conference is a blessing and a curse that way. A couple of upcoming games against #9 BYU will test the Aztecs, but where will they end up when it comes to March Madness and the NCAA men’s tournament?

The contestants in Super Bowl XLV are set, as the Pittsburgh Steelers and Green Bay Packers became conference champions this weekend. The New York Jets and Chicago Bears were eliminated, so neither will appear in 2011’s NFL championship game. It was an exciting weekend of football with Aaron Rodgers, Rashard Mendenhall, Brian Urlacher, and Ben Roethlisberger all hitting the field to do battle in the AFC and NFC conference finals.

In the past several years, the publishing industry has been in decline. Fewer people are reading books, magazines, and newspapers. However, even when then economic downturn was at its worst, there was one area of the publishing industry that continued to grow – comic books and graphic novels. And it’s not just Superman, Batman, and Spider-Man anymore. Graphic novels are taken increasingly seriously by readers, the media, and academics. So for those interested in the medium but not so into superheroes, what’s out there that’s worth reading? Here's a Top 10 list (of sorts) that, for better or worse, is free of capes and tights.

The Pittsburgh Steelers, New York Jets, Chicago Bears, and Green Bay Packers will all battle for a trip to Super Bowl XLV this weekend. Will the Bears’ and Jets’ defenses win the day, or will elite offenses from Pittsburgh and Green Bay punch their ticket? Here’s the Rosebud look at Ben Roethlisberger, Aaron Rodgers, Brian Urlacher, Darrelle Revis, and how their football clubs will fare this NFL weekend.

Last year, the University of Washington Huskies clawed their way into the NCAA men’s basketball tournament by turning up their game in the last half of the season. They defeated Pac-10 champs, the California Golden Bears, in the conference tournament, and hit the big dance as a #11 seed. But they made their biggest splash once March Madness began, upsetting #6 seed Marquette and #3 seed New Mexico to reach the Sweet 16. Their run ended when they ran into #2 seed and eventual Final Four contender West Virginia, but they were poised for a great 2011 after it was all said and done. So far, they’ve delivered.

For years, there were two top individual awards in soccer – the Ballon D’Or, which went to the best player competing in Europe, and the FIFA World Player of the Year Award. But recently, the two awards were merged to recognize the best footballer in the world. The 2010 award was given to FC Barcelona’s Lionel Messi, making him the first winner of the new award. But just as importantly, the honor goes a long way towards cementing the Argentinean’s legacy as one of the best players of his generation.

Four teams with a deep history of football success have become the final four teams still standing in the fight for Super Bowl XLV. The Chicago Bears, Green Bay Packers, Pittsburgh Steelers, and New York Jets are all franchises with Super Bowl championships to their names. The question is who will add to their legacy by becoming NFL champs in 2011?
