With that said, the best part of growing indoors is that you can do it all year round, but when the summer months hit, so does the heat. Depending on where you live, this can be a big problem.
In this edition of Hydro 101, I'm going to teach you some simple tricks on how to get the coolest grow room possible in those harsh summer months.
First, think ventilation. The use of wall mount fans are a must. Make sure to position them to reflect off of a wall and not directly onto your plants. This way you still get air movement without sucking all the moisture out of your plants.
Next, make sure that you buy an exhaust vent fan so that you can push the hot air from your room to the outside.
Another tip is to run your light cycle during the evening hours when the temperature becomes cooler. This way, during the day your plants are not being blasted with the heat of your HID lamps and the heat from the outside at the same time.
Air-cooling your lights can help this problem as well.
If you have the extra cash, a portable air conditioner always helps, but sometimes stock is limited in the summer time, and prices can be ridiculous.
Another suggestion is to make sure you’re not overcrowding your grow room. This will create more heat and also add more humidity, which we all know is no bueno, especially in the bloom stage.
Last but not least, an important factor that many newbie growers don't know about is the use of potassium silicate. This product helps strengthen your plants’ cell walls and make your plants less susceptible to pests, disease and wilting flowers. Advanced Nutrients Rhino Skin is a great product to introduce to your grow, especially in the hot summer months, indoor or outdoor.
These are all factors to take into consideration while growing in the summer months indoors. It's hard to keep your temperature under control, especially in hotter climates, but these tips can definitely help to ensure the best grow possible in your indoor grow room. Until next time, grow big or go home!
