LOS ANGELES – When it comes to living the life of a movie star, no show paints a prettier picture for gamers than Mark Wahlberg’s “Entourage.” Two of the stars of HBO’s hit series, Jerry “Turtle” Ferrara and Kevin “Drama” Dillon, have logged a lot of hours playing games in real life, and in the show. In November, they combined their two loves – acting and gaming – in a series of humorous viral videos to promote Electronic Arts’ latest racer, Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit. The actors talk about the new game, which is available on PC and drives home exciting racing action with NVIDIA GeForce cards, in this exclusive interview from the commercial shoot.

Electronic Arts’ Need for Speed franchise has sold more than 100 million copies. What is it about these games that you think makes them so popular?

Jerry Ferrara (left) and Kevin Dillon (right) go for a test driveJerry Ferrara (left) and Kevin Dillon (right) go for a test drive Jerry Ferrara: I just think that, number one, on the technical side, the Need for Speed franchise has consistently always been the best racing game. And I'm not even saying that because I'm a part of it now. This is my honest opinion. I think it’s just consistency over time and EA finding new ways to reinvent the franchise like they did with Hot Pursuit this year. Bringing the whole cop versus racer element to the forefront is something that’s really cool.

Kevin Dillon: I think there's a little fantasy element, too. Not everyone gets to drive around in a Maserati or a Bugatti or a Ferrari. And they can do that in this game. And they also can't drive at 180 miles per hour and have an accident like they have in this game and walk away. Some of the accidents in this game are some of the most intense thing I've ever seen in a game. The wipeouts are the best.

Jerry Ferrara: You find yourself really feeling bad that you just wrecked the Maserati. It’s like, “Oh, wow, I just really destroyed that Maserati.”

Kevin Dillion: I better get a new one.

What's it like being part of these Need for Speed viral videos?

Jerry Ferrara: So far, so good. We kind of just finished up that experience today. And I have to say -- I didn’t know what to expect going into it. I thought it wouldn’t be different from anything else but it was pretty similar. And just the chance to work with Kevin…we kind of have a rapport that we get into. It was a lot of fun.

Kevin Dillon: To be honest, it just felt like a day on “Entourage” or something. It felt like we were doing another shooting day. It was pretty easy, the crew was great, the people involved were all great. And the scripts were funny, so I think it’s going to be good.

Tell me a little bit more about the scripts. W hat exactly did you guys do here?

Jerry Ferrara: We really focused on the competition element within the game. We're playing these valet drivers who get to drive all these really expensive, crazy, exotic cars, but we can't really go fast. And then it's kind of intercut with the footage from Hot Pursuit and all you do is go fast. So it's that element mixed together. I'm kind of more of the racer from Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit and Kevin is more of the --

Kevin Dillon: I'm more of the cop and there's a lot of chop busting. So that’s the gist, you just see us busting each other’s chops a lot.

You guys have had the chance to play Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit. Now are you a racer, or are you a cop?

Kevin Dillon: I'm more of a cop so I like to play the cop.

Now, why is that?

Kevin Dillon: Because I'm a predator and I like to hunt rather than run like prey, this guy here.

What about you, Jerry?

Jerry Ferrara: I mean, how do you follow that? I'm more of the racer that tries to stay away from predators like him.

Now are you a Need for Speed fan and what is your favorite game from the franchise?

Kevin Dillon: Well, I like the original Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit. That was my first Need for Speed game and that was my favorite one.

Jerry Ferrara: Yeah, I mean, I'm obviously familiar with the original Hot Pursuit. I think I started playing with the Underground franchise, right around the time when the Fast and Furious movies were kind of becoming popular, that game hit. So obviously, it’s a lot different than this kind of game. But that game stood out for me up until this one.

What types of games to do play on the set of “Entourage”?

Kevin Dillon: We do quite a bit of gaming. We played a lot of that war game, Call of Duty: modern Warfare 2 in the trailers in between scenes. But next season we'll be doing this game (Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit). Because this we can really battle on. Call of Duty we kind of played with each other. You get to hunt each other down too, though.

Jerry Ferrara: Well, that’s the thing, too. It has to be a game that you can play a quick race on because sometimes we only get a five-minute break. You don’t have a lot of time so you can jump in and play a quick race and then go back. It's tough to play those games with big story modes that you have to lock into. You don’t want to play those two or three minutes at a time. So this is the kind of quick version gameplay that we can really enjoy on set next season.
