Jessica Chastain Heats Up the Screen in 2011

Jessica Chastain is one of the hottest commodities in Hollywood in 2011 and 2012 thanks to roles in Tree of Life and The Help. Jessica Chastain is one of the hottest commodities in Hollywood in 2011 and 2012 thanks to roles in Tree of Life and The Help.

For Jessica Chastain, Hollywood dues came pretty cheap. Early in her young career, the cherry redhead’s star quality quickly proved uncontainable for the small screen, outgrowing roles on Law & Order: Someone Got Arrested or Killed or Violated as well as a handful of various movies of the week. Casting directors took notice and now the 30-year-old California girl boasts six major studio releases in 2011 alone, starring alongside Brad Pitt (Tree of Life), Gerard Butler, Ralph Fiennes (Coriolanus), Emma Stone (The Help) and hunkster Sam Worthington (The Debt and Texas Killing Fields). She plays the young Helen Mirren in John Madden’s political thriller The Debt, as an ass-kicking Israeli spy. Madden and Mirren’s names alone are Oscar kindling.

“It was difficult for John Madden to find an actress who could be the young me. It’s hard enough finding one person who is right for a role, let alone finding two people! And then he found Jessica Chastain,” said Mirren. “She did an incredible job. Everything I do [in the film] is based on her and her look.”

It is Chastain’s scene-stealing turn, however, as the sugar-sweet trailer trash in The Help that will surely garner Chastain nomination after nomination come awards season. Her portrayal of the well-meaning Celia Foote pushed the boundary of camp just enough to provide the film’s only real comic relief. Hiding her pain with lipstick, her character is the most layered and rich. Stone’s character Skeeter is certainly billed as the rabble-rouser, but it’s one thing to swoop in, ruffle feathers and leave town, and quite another to stick around and weather the civil rights media storm in which the film (and bestselling novel) is based.

Apparently her days of flying coach or playing second banana are over: Her dance card for 2012 is already filled.

Chastain, like Celia, dutifully took her backseat to marquee names like Stone, Bryce Dallas Howard, Viola Davis, and the always-entertaining Allison Janney, but left audiences wanting more – more Jessica. Apparently her days of flying coach or playing second banana are over: Her dance card for 2012 is already filled. She’ll ride jump seat with the likes of Tom Cruise, Al Pacino, Shia LaBeouf, Javier Bardem, Ben Affleck and Rachel McAdams.

Guys looking to score points with the little lady should go see The Help. Jessica Chastain’s Jell-O jiggle and humidity laced cleavage in 70mm is worth easily $9.00. You can thank us later.
