Your Guide to Bora Bora – The Romantic Island

Can’t you hear Bora Bora calling your name? Can’t you hear Bora Bora calling your name?

For a truly unforgettable vacation, take a trip to Bora Bora, the “Romantic Island” of French Polynesia. Bora Bora is quite possibly the most famous island in the world, featuring high-class resorts, gorgeous scenery, romantic legends, and exciting tourist attractions.

Bora Bora is an island in the Leeward group of the Society Islands of French Polynesia in the Pacific Ocean, surrounded by a beautiful turquoise lagoon and barrier reef. Although the extraordinary beauty of the island draws a considerable number of visitors, Bora Bora’s remoteness and high price hotels have kept it from being overrun with tourists. If you’ve been searching for the perfect romantic getaway, look no further than the enchanting island of Bora Bora.

When to Go

The climate of Bora Bora is tropical, divided into wet and dry seasons. November to April is considered the wet season, with high humidity and temperatures ranging from 80 to 86 degrees. Storms during these months are frequent but brief, and cloud cover is common. Don’t worry; you’ll still get plenty of sun. Although this is termed the “off season” for tourism, vacationers enjoy advantages like more lodging options, less competition for activities and sightseeing schedules, as well as lower pricing.

May through October is the dry season, the “on season” for tourists, with temps between 75 and 82 degrees. Rain is rare, but winds will be present no matter when you travel. The breezes during the day are refreshing, but be sure to pack a sweater for the evenings.

What to Do

Without a doubt, the lagoon is one of the major attractions of Bora Bora. You can bring your own snorkeling gear, but most hotels offer equipment for their guests. We recommend snorkeling with an experienced guide; they will take you to the best spots for seeing the most species of coral and fish. The variety of marine life here is amazing and the crystal clear water makes visibility nearly perfect.

You’ll have the opportunity to see sea turtles, barracuda, moray eels, dolphins, and a wide variety of sharks. During August through October you may even see the migrating humpback whales.

For interactive animal experiences, check out a tour like Moana Jet Boat, one of the most popular new attractions on the island. Touch and feed stingrays, snorkel through the coral gardens, and enjoy a cocktail as you sail through the lagoon. The tour also offers swimming with sharks (for the brave), sunset cruises, and jet skiing.

Experience the best of Bora Bora at the Lagoonarium, a place to swim and interact with turtles, dolphins, sharks, rays and more. We also recommend you reserve a day for sailing. You’ll have options of sunset sails aboard a private catamaran, Polynesian music and dancers, or a gourmet lunch prepared on a private beach.

Other activities in Bora Bora include surfing, waterskiing, scuba diving, glass bottom boat tours, hiking, massages, parasailing, deep sea fishing, horseback riding, private lagoon tours and much more. The hotels, although pricey, offer luxurious accommodations and fantastic views. The island features many delicious restaurants, art galleries and gift shops – giving you plenty to do if you decide to venture away from the hotel pool or beach. With everything Bora Bora has to offer, it’s definitely worth a top spot on your “dream vacation” list.
