Consider for a moment your health as a glass of water. Imagine two glasses filled to the brim with water left to sit out. Now imagine one of those glasses has a constant drip of fresh water falling into it, drop by drop. Naturally, the volume of water in this glass is constantly being exchanged as it leaves the glass and evaporates into the air. The other glass sits static, with no fluid being replaced. Eventually, this second glass will become stagnant and unhealthy before finally evaporating to an empty state. Now consider the health of our bodies and that of our crops. Both our plants and ourselves are filled with vital fluids that literally contain our lifeblood. Our perception of health may merely be a reflection on the vitality and balance of biochemistry that occurs within this lifeblood.

When the lifeblood of your crop is out of balance, plants become more susceptible to problems like diseases. The same may be said of you: When people become run-down from poor nutrition, lack of sleep and overexertion (either mental or physical), we tend to get sick and lethargic and are considerably less likely to perform up to our real potential. Essentially, our lifeblood chemistry is out of balance.

In superior crop-feeding programs, the building blocks for a high degree of vitality in plants are supplied. These include amino acids, B vitamins, enzymes, simple and complex sugars, esters, polyphenolics—the list goes on. By supplying the right types of nutrients, additives and beneficial microbiology in a complete crop-feeding program, plants and the beneficial microbiology that surrounds them have the potential to recombine and covert essential building blocks into healthy, well-balanced “plant plasma.” Think back to our example of the water being replenished in the glass to keep it palatable and prevent it from growing stagnant and eventually becoming empty. A good crop-feeding program provides the same constant exchange of vital fluids.

The water that can be drained from young whole coconuts is actually close enough to human plasma that it was used during the fighting in the South Pacific toward the end of World War II as emergency transfusion fluid given to soldiers.

Now let’s look inward. Are we really all that different? It seems plausible that replenishing your own lifeblood with beneficial nutrients that closely mirror your own, delivered from natural sources, would provide benefits to you, just as an engineered crop-feeding program does for your plants.

Coconut water, fresh out of young whole coconuts, which can be kept refrigerated for several weeks, mirrors your own blood plasma very closely. Sound a little unbelievable?

In fact, in some developing countries, coconut water is still used as plasma for human transfusion.

Young coconuts are one of the most perfect food sources available to us. The water they contain is filled with healthy electrolytes, and the meat is also very nutritious. If you add a chlorophyll component to young coconut water, you have a fluid that is remarkably similar to your own blood.

So instead of being that static glass of water with fluids slowly disappearing, replenish your lifeblood regularly with vital fluid, so that you remain as fresh as they day you were first poured.

It’s actually quite easy to do. All you need is a blender, a fresh young coconut and some powdered spirulina (blue-green algae). Most grocers carry fresh young coconuts wrapped in cellophane in the refrigerated section, and spirulina powder is available from most health food stores. By the way, spirulina tastes much better than it sounds, especially once it’s blended with other ingredients.

You’ll need to cut open the top of the young coconut (a large, sharp cleaver works great). Give the top of the coconut four good whacks, cutting out a square shape across the top. Pour the coconut water into the blender, making sure that no bits of the hard inner nut find their way in from your cuts (they are hard on teeth). Again, using the cleaver, cut the empty nut in half. Use a spoon to scrape out the inner flesh, and drop it into the blender as well. (The addition of the flesh is optional.) Now add about one tablespoon of dried spirulina powder to the mixture, cover, and blend until smooth.

Ideally, the young coconut will be cold from refrigeration, so the drink will be cool and refreshing. You can drink this straight up or add frozen fruits or protein powders to make a tasty smoothie. Whatever you choose to do, drink it fresh, because once the water is released from the protective nut, it is exposed to air and nutrients may begin to oxidize.

Whoever thought replenishing your lifeblood could be so tasty? Do this every day, and your cup shall runneth over with health and vitality. Now there’s something we can all drink to.
