Wii-Game Review: Castlevania the Adventure Rebirth = Fun in a Retro Style

Castlevania the Adventure Rebirth = Fun in a Retro Style Castlevania the Adventure Rebirth = Fun in a Retro Style

Game developer, Konami, has launched a new series of retro-style games with its Rebirth line. The latest of these is Castlevania the Adventure Rebirth, a side-scrolling game straight out of the late ‘80s.

The emphasis here is on action, true to the arcade style that influenced games through until the late ‘90s. Exploration is at a minimum, while vampire whipping is doled out in heaping portions.

The authenticity that Konami strives for with this release extends to the absent save feature. If you shut off your console, next time you want to play this game, you’ll have to go back to the start. Similarly, when you die, you back to the last checkpoint. Lose all your lives and you’re back at the beginning of the level. It’s a true retro-experience, so make sure you know what you’re getting into.

There are a few weapons available besides your trusty whip, including an axe, a dagger, and some holy water. And occasionally, the game veers off from the straight line the hero follows for the most part throughout. There are also some hidden keys for opening locked doors, but for the most part, this is straight up, action-packed, side-scrolling fun that will have you partying like it was 1991.
