Prince William and Kate Middleton’s Royal Wedding: Do Guys Care?

Kate Middelton and Prince William are getting married – do guys care about the Royal Wedding, the guest list, and all the hoopla? Kate Middelton and Prince William are getting married – do guys care about the Royal Wedding, the guest list, and all the hoopla?

Whether you care or not, you probably haven’t been able to escape hearing that Friday marks the date of the royal wedding held at Westminster Abbey between Prince William of Wales and Kate Middleton. Most of the rest of the world has been steadily preparing for the event. This monarchical celebration of the British Royal Family and tradition has been the obsessive focus of virtually all news and entertainment providers for the past week, and a constant subject of bemusement, excitement and anger for bloggers all over the Internet.

The fanatics who will be watching during breakfast have the option of celebrating with a commemorative royal wedding donut offered by Dunkin' Donuts.

Maybe your regularly scheduled programming was recently interrupted courtesy of another news special on the upcoming ceremony. Maybe your girlfriend is cashing in on the opportunity and you'll be spending Friday night in. Maybe the event means nothing at all to you. But to a large majority the royal wedding is one of the year's biggest events. Given the extent of media coverage, and with a projected seven-figure budget, the royal wedding is at least bound to be extravagant.

The floral display at Westminster Abbey is sourced from English growers and includes eight 20-foot trees (English Field Maple and Hornbeam), and seasonal shrubs such as rhododendron, azaleas, and lilac. The trees will be replanted in Highgrove Gardens following the ceremony.

According to AOL Travel, Americans are quite possibly more interested in the ceremony than native Britons; three times as many Americans have booked hotels for the event. Travel agencies are predicting possible delays, and report that tourism both in and out of the UK has skyrocketed. A reported estimate of 2 billion people worldwide will view the wedding on television.

As the proceedings begin at 11 a.m. local time (6 a.m. EST), it is hard to imagine that many Americans will be up to watch the live coverage. The fanatics who will be watching during breakfast have the option of celebrating with a commemorative royal wedding donut offered by Dunkin' Donuts.

Prince William won't be wearing a wedding band, but a ring made of Welsh gold owned by the Royal Family will be presented to Kate Middleton.

Friday also marks the beginning of a UK national holiday, and most guys will probably be taking advantage of the time to focus on entertainment and relaxation – which typically doesn't include observing a wedding ceremony. American guys can rest assured they'll be filled in on the details at work.

Among those who received royal wedding invitations are Kanye West, Sir Elton John, and Kate Middleton's mailman. Neither former Prime Minister Tony Blair nor First Lady Michelle Obama received an invite.

While memorabilia manufacturers, the travel industry, and news outlets must be happy with the business the royal wedding has brought, those who are overwhelmed by the hype and confused by the fanaticism will be all the happier when the deal is sealed between Prince William and Kate Middleton and the royal wedding becomes yesterday’s news. Kate Middleton has a big role to fill in the footsteps of Princess Diana, and the world will surely be watching the new Royal Family with scrutiny.
